Forty minutes in an occupied village
Saint-Roch, Normandy, 1944. The garrison still holds the village, and every raid lasts forty minutes before the bombers come and flatten it. Players pack a kit, go in alone or in a squad of up to four, take everything they can carry and make it out alive. Whatever they bring out is theirs to keep; whatever they take in is on the line.
They are not alone in there. Up to twelve squads share a raid, 48 players in all, and the garrison fights every one of them: riflemen, machine guns on overwatch and scoped marksmen in the streets, an officer and his guards at the abbey, and the commandant deep in the command bunker. Over fifty furnished houses hide cognac, medals and silver, and with luck a painting or a gold ingot worth more than the rest of the raid.
Between raids, players sell what they found to the quartermaster, buy better guns, take jobs from the orders board and upgrade their kit for good. Every raid draws its own hour, weather and ways out, so no two go the same way.
One developer, built in the open
No Man’s Village is made by one developer, Torsten Dittmann. It began as a browser prototype in TypeScript and was rebuilt in Godot, with its own level compiler that builds the voxel village, its houses and their furniture from code.
The free alpha opened on itch.io in October 2026. New builds arrive often, and each one is written up on the blog. Steam Early Access follows once the alpha has settled.
What sets it apart
- 01
Squads of four, 48 to a raid
Go in alone or with up to three friends, who join with a four-letter code. Other squads are in the same raid, up to 48 players on Saint-Roch, and they are as dangerous as the garrison. Friendly fire is on.
- 02
A garrison that fights back
Riflemen, machine gunners and scoped marksmen notice you slowly and hear everything. They take cover, flank, throw grenades and search where they lost you, and a tank patrols the farm roads.
- 03
Bosses
An officer and his guards hold the abbey, and the commandant waits in the command bunker with his best men. Each takes far more to bring down than anyone else in the village.
- 04
Loot and orders
Armoires, chests, desks and the dead. Sell what you find to the quartermaster, take jobs from the orders board for francs and standing, and follow a chain of them to the commandant.
- 05
Gunplay that respects the period
Thirty-one guns of three armies. Bullets drop and go through doors and hedges, every automatic has its own recoil, and there is no crosshair.
- 06
Wounds that stay
Nothing heals on its own. Dressings stop the bleeding, morphine brings you back, and if you fall you keep only what is in your pouch.
- 07
Forty minutes, then the bombers
Every raid draws its own hour, weather and ways out: the road, the supply train, a half-track, a resistance guide or a flare pickup the whole valley sees.
- 08
A whole valley to raid
Over fifty houses to climb, a stone abbey, a command bunker and twelve guarded places in the country, from a radar station to a château. A second map waits at a dam in the mountains.
